The Elk Is Fishable and Driftable!
Submitted by paul on Sun, 02/21/2010 - 09:18
The bank ice on the Elk has receded and has opened up the majority of the flowing water. This has created numerous safe spots for bank fishing and although we haven't seen any water craft on the river it should be navigable. Water Conditions:
Cold and Clear
Hatches:
There has been some midge activity but no evidence of fish feeding on the surface.
Flies to Use:
Prince Nymphs, Stone Fly Nymphs, Small Streamers
Commentary:
Although there is good access to the river there are plenty of dangerous ice shelves that can break and send you sliding into the cold water. Its best if you can find exposed gravel to fish from.
